Allahabad HC stays Ramleela stars arrest - Times of India

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday stayed the arrest of film Ramleela's producer and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, hero Ranveer Kapoor and heroines Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. The arrest was stayed in connection with a criminal case registered against them at Bareilly district, alleging that the obscenity in the film had hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community.

The order was passed by a division bench comprising Justice Arun Tandon and Justice Shashi Kant on a writ petition filed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and others.

Kailash Chandra Sharma, a resident of Bareilly, had lodged an FIR with Bhamaura police against Bhansali and others. The petitioner alleged that the producer, director and actors have hurt the religious sentiments of a particular community by depicting obscenity in the film which has religious name.
