Parikar said that a prominent citizen complained about a Facebook post, which was registered as per Supreme Court guidelines by the police. The court rejected Chodankar?s anticipatory bail after going through the evidence and it is not fair to blame the government for this arrest.
Chodankar had posted on Facebook that Christians would lose their identity in south Goa if Modi comes to power. He had posted the comment on March 23 and was summoned by Goa police on May 12.
He has been booked under the contentious section 66A of the IT Act along with sections of 153(A) and 295(A) of the Indian Penal Code. The FIR was registered by former chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industries Atul Pai Kane.
Chodankar's lawyer Jatin Naik said that the whole case shows the saffronisation of Goa Police. He added that what is the need of custodial interrogation? His client has just posted a comment on Facebook.
Superintendent of Police Kartik Kashyap, howver, said that the comments posted by the shipping professional qualify for a cognizable offence.
He added that Chodankar is absconding despite being served two summons. Kahsyap said that the police need his custodial interrogation to recover few hardware items. He asserted that prima facie, the comments does qualify for a cognizable offence.
