A total of 15,623 units of the Brio hatchbacks and 15,603 units of the Amaze compact car manufactured from February 28, 2013 through January 16, 2014 are being recalled, Honda Cars India Ltd. said.

The auto maker said there was a possibility that the proportioning valves, which help distribute brake pressure to the wheels, may not have been assembled properly.

The recalls for both the cars only relate to variants that don't have anti-lock brakes. Versions that have anti-lock brakes won't be affected by the recall since these don't have proportioning valves, the company said.

Indian companies have recalled more than 600,000 vehicles since the industry's association--the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers--adopted a voluntary code on vehicle recalls in July 2012.
