New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and Lok Sabha MP from Indore, Sumitra Mahajan's name is reoccuring within the party for the post of Speaker in the Lower House of Parliament, as per sources.
The eight-time MP Mahajan popularly known as 'Tai', had won by a great margin of 4,66,301 votes against Congress' Satyanarayan Patel.
If sources are to be believed, Mahajan is being prefered over the party veteran MM Joshi for the post which is equivalent to Chief Justice of India in heirarchy.
If appointed, she would be the second woman Speaker of the Lok Sabha succeeded by the Congress' Meira Kumar.
Mahajan is the only female leader to have won eight General Elections, one of the three members of the 16th Lok Sabha to do so and the longest-serving woman member. She has surpassed incumbent West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who was chosen as MP for seven times.
However, it is yet to be seen whether her becoming a Speaker would ruffle a few features or not?
