Remain alert, rail passengers urged - Times of India

VISAKHAPATNAM: In the wake of the bomb blasts at Chennai railway station on Thursday morning, the railway authorities have appealed to passengers to remain alert during the course of their journey in the interest of public safety and security. The authorities advised the passengers to alert the nearest railway staff or send an SMS to 09701370728 in case they notice any suspicious, unclaimed articles or explosive, inflammable materials.

Passengers have been asked not to carry fire crackers or other inflammable substances with them in trains.

"Carrying such articles poses grave safety threat and creates a highly unsafe situation for all the rail passengers. As per Sections 67, 154, 164 and 165 of the Railways Act 1989, carrying inflammable and explosive articles on railways premises is a punishable offence that attracts up to three years imprisonment or fine up to Rs 1000 or both, besides being liable for the loss or injury or damage caused," said a senior railway officer.
