Popular playback singer Ankit Tiwari is the latest addition to that very long list of celebrities who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law. Ankit Tiwari was arrested for allegedly raping his female friend on several occasions for over a year on the pretext of marriage, police said.


24-year-old Tiwari, known for his popular song ‘Sun Raha Hai Na’ from ‘Aashiqui 2′, was arrested by Versova police on May 8 after the woman, who is said to be his girlfriend, complained that he sexually assaulted her between October 2012 and December 2013 assuring marriage but failed to keep the promise, they said.


A few weeks earlier, actor Inder Kumar was arrested on charges of rape and assault. Inder apparently raped and abused a 23-year-old model on the pretext of helping her get roles in films.


In 2009, Shiney Ahuja, who is known for his films like ‘Life in a… Metro’ and ‘Bhool Bhuliya’, was arrested after his 20-year-old maid accused him of rape. Initially, Ahuja had claimed that the act was consensual and later admitted to rape. However, his wife Anupama had maintained that the actor was being framed.


In March 2011, Shiney Ahuja was convicted and sentenced to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment. But, he was released on bail and the following year, the actor applied for an early hearing in the Bombay High Court.


Salman Khan is no stranger to crime. In 2002, the actor was arrested for rash and negligent driving after his car slammed into a bakery in Mumbai, killing one person who was sleeping on the pavement and injuring three others.


On 24 July 2013, he was formally charged with culpable homicide in the case, to which he pleaded not guilty. The trial is currently going on and three witnesses have identified him.


In February 2006, Salman Khan was also sentenced to one-year in prison for hunting a Chinkara, an endangered species. On April 10, 2006, he was handed a five-year jail term and remanded to Jodhpur jail until April 13 when he was granted bail. However, in 2012, continued…
